Day 43: Food Porn

Madagascar

Food porn is a regular trip topic on site. Sometimes it’s welcomed, allowing dreamers to visualize there beans and rice as whatever craving may be taking over their stomach. But other times it’s forbidden to talk about things like nutella, bacon, or fruit salads as it only enhances the cravings. Re-occuring ‘food porn’ themes tend to be:

-Cheese: Any variety. Any form (except aerosol cheese…that is NOT cheese). Cheese on a pizza, as a dip, slices of cheese. Cheese strings, expensive cheese, babybel. A ‘would you rather’…”sweat cheese or cry ketchup?” question always resulted in cheese FTW! But then the REAL question is… what kind of cheese would you want to sweat?

-Fruit: For me, blueberries, raspberries, (any berry for that matter) are in the forefront of my mind…all the time.

-Juicy chicken breast with all sorts of garnishes and flavors

-Musli: with yogurt and berries. And access to second helpings.

– Nutella: enough said.

Let’s just say that I’m very thankful for having variety in my food back home. It’s not like the food here is bad… it just gets boring eating the same thing day after day. Variety is one of the main things I miss the most from back home, but it is also one of the things that causes the most stress.  Having options and choices with schooling, jobs, where I live, what I wear, my lifestyle, not to mention the unnecessary material goods in my life, it becomes overwhelming. In Andavadoaka things are much more simple. The stakes may be higher, such as needing to find food to eat and finding reliable water to drink. But they don’t seem to get bombarded by the millions of trival options that we have to make in a day. And that’s all they really are… trival. Think of all the options you have when buying chips, tampons, toothpaste, pop, bread, socks (for heavens sake), milk, … the list goes on and on.

  1. Well Leah, keep up with meditation, then you will not have too many cravings. Mind over matter. As you already know, you are very smart. All the choices does not make anyone happy. Only segment of population will be happy, short lived pleasures then move on. Consumer’s culture lead my cunning marketeers. Pleasure comes from material things, joy comes from within.
